About the hollow cylinder (tube) calculator
A hollow cylinder is a pipe or tube: an outer radius R, an inner radius r and a length h. The material volume π(R² − r²)h tells you how much steel, plastic or concrete it takes (multiply by density for weight); the inner capacity πr²h tells you how much it holds.
Formulas
| Material volume | V = π(R² − r²)h |
| Capacity | Vᵢₙ = πr²h |
| Surface (inside + outside + ends) | S = 2π(R + r)h + 2π(R² − r²) |
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate the weight of a pipe?
Find the material volume V = π(R² − r²)h, convert it to cm³ or m³, then multiply by the material’s density (e.g. 7.85 g/cm³ for steel).
