About the cone calculator
A right circular cone has a circular base of radius r and an apex directly above its center at height h. Its volume is exactly one third of the matching cylinder, πr²h/3. The slant height l runs along the surface from rim to apex, and the lateral (side) area πrl is what you’d get by unrolling it into a sector.
Formulas
| Volume | V = πr²h/3 |
| Slant height | l = √(r² + h²) |
| Lateral area | L = πrl |
| Total surface | S = πr(r + l) |
Frequently asked questions
How do I find the slant height of a cone?
l = √(r² + h²), from the right triangle formed by the radius, height and slant.
What is the volume of a cone?
V = (1/3)πr²h.
